RED ARROWS 1978 GNAT TRI-COLOUR GENERATION & EMISSION TECH MANUAL/ DOWNLOAD
This is a pdf download edition of a VERY RARE long-discontinued servicing manual which was once used by the Ground Crew working on the Folland Gnat Mk.1 aircraft of the 1978 R.A.F. RED ARROWS.
One of the most visually thrilling parts of the Red Arrows display is the moment at which the pilots select a 'Tri-Colour' smoke colour and each aircraft starts to stream either white, red or blue from the special tail pipes. Producing white smoke is no problem and entails squirting DERV into the jetpipe which vaporises to give a dense white stream. Producing the colours however is not so easy, requiring powdered industrial dyes dissolved in acid and then mixed with Derv to be injected into the jetstream. The process starts with the pilot pressing one of three buttons situated on the joystick and throttle lever.
This manual instructs the Red Arrows fitters and mechanics on the correct procedures for Generation & Emission of the smoke.
